Welcome to the AVTF Classes at North Cobb High School! I am really looking forward to having everyone back Face to Face this year. We have a lot of great new equipment for the students to begin learning on like our new control room and studio which did not get much use last year and other new equipment.
I will be working to update this website with projects as we go throughout the year but most of our projects will all be listed in CTLS and we will be using CTLS to turn in projects and assignments. More things will be updated and ready in the coming week as we begin preparations for school to start August 2.

Another crazy morning for CTLS. Zoom appears to be working and this is a CTLS issue. So classes if you are not able to get into CTLS today, please go to the back up zoom meetings. I will send out the remind mails 10 minutes before class with the link to the backup zoom meeting.
Yes! A day long awaited. We are in the process this week of installing a new control room and studio equipment at North Cobb High School! See the The New Control Room Update page for photos. But yes, a whole new control room, new LED Studio Lights, New Blackmagic Ursa broadcast cameras, NewTek PTZ robotic cameras and a new anchor desk! And not only that, we are using the old equipment to create a new second control room for training and offline control room practice!
A HUGE THANK YOU! to Dr. Decuir and the Cobb County Schools CTAE Department for purchasing this upgrade to our classroom and labs this year. If you cant tell I am really excited for all the great things we are going to be able to do this year. For those that want to get a jump on things, look up the NewTek Tricaster TC1 for training videos to see all the cool features our new switcher will have on Youtube and Amitrace.com. If you havent yet, you can still get projects to me before 3p today. I am finalizing grades between 12p and 3p but will not post them until 3p today in case you need to slip one more in. So be sure to get them emailed to me ASAP! [email protected] is the address.
Seniors!!!! remember to come by the school on Friday between 11a-1p to pick up your graduation packets! If you were in my level 3 or 4 class the state has granted you the End of Pathway certification without having to take the test. So you will get a cord for graduation! It should be in your packet. I hope to see many of you there on Friday. Questions be sure to email me. [email protected]. Everything that has been turned in to me has been graded and is in the gradebook. If you are wanting to see what projects you are missing just go to student vue and look at your grades. If it does not have a grade or says Excluded that means I have NOT received that project.
You still have until Monday to get any projects to me that you want to turn in. You can email photos, scans, or just send me the answers to the worksheet via email at [email protected] or use onedrive to share items or google drive to [email protected] if you want to send them that way. ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE BY MONDAY MAY 18! Final grades will be entered and can not be changed on Wednesday May 20! Lastly, if you have any equipment of mine or any items from another class. Books, Calculators, rulers, etc please see the email the school sent out earlier this week with what times to come by and turn those items in on Monday May 18 as well. Thanks! Dan Knode [email protected] Congratulations everyone! You have made it to the end of another year. No more assignments for the rest of the semester. I am leaving today and Monday for you to finish any other projects you may have outstanding and get them turned in for a grade.

Everyone else, you have until Monday next week to get yours in. Only one new assignment for the remainder of the week and that is to watch a longer video on the TC1 switcher to get more indepth about what we can do next year. Otherwise, it is just finish anything that is missing. Welcome to the last full week of school everyone! A few things for today.
Welcome to the end of another week everyone! We are almost there. To start with here are a few things to know coming up.
SENIORS!!! Your last day to turn in your assignments to me is THIS Monday May 11! Senior grades are due in at the end of the day on Tuesday and I need time to finish grading them. So get them in NOW! 9th, 10, 11th! Your last day to get assignments in to me will be Monday May 18. I have to have everything graded by the 20th. So get yours in by then if you want credit for them. Everyone has done a great job all year and I really appreciate all the hard work you have put into your projects and the changes doing online learning. Hopefully next semester we will be able to get back to normal with video productions and actually using our skills on new projects. As usual any questions just email me and let me know. [email protected] Thanks! Mr. Knode Welcome to Cinco De Mayo! or Revenge of the Fifth for Star Wars fans! Today our assignment is about how to best setup and record an interview with someone for a news piece or a documentary. There are 2 videos some of what they talk about are the same but they have some great tips and tricks to help make your interviews look and sound better. As usual, just write up 2 paragraphs about you learned from the videos and email them to me.
I am still working on grading, and should have another week's worth graded in the next few days. Any questions, just let me know! [email protected] Hope everyone is doing well on their online learning. I will be posting next week's work later this weekend. For today though, I found that there were some issues with the gradebook and I just fixed that so you can now go in and see where you are in the class. Some of the assignments were not showing up because the gradebook is now in the last 6 weeks and I had to migrate the last 12 weeks of assignments over to the final 6 weeks listing. SO now you should see where you are in the class grade wise. I am currently up to April 4th in the grading for all three classes and will be adding more grades next week as I get through grading more projects.
Any questions feel free to let me know. You can always reach me at [email protected] via email. To start, sorry I did not post yesterday. I had a busy day with my son and his own school work and forgot to post anything.
This week we are starting on Rundowns and Show creation. How does a News show decide which story is the first story to air, and what is the order of the items in the show. As well as what is a rundown for a news show and how does it work. It is different than a film or production. All levels are doing this work this week. Level 1 because you have never heard of this before. Level 2 some of this is new and some of this is a reminder as you get ready for level 3 and for Level 3 and 4 this is a refresher for the EOPAs as well as preparing you for next year where I hope to add rundowns to our shows. All 3 days are powerpoints with an assignment at the end of the power point. Thursday you will be learning about what a Broadcast Lead In is and how to write one and then writing 3 different ones. Questions or clarifications just drop me an email and I will answer you. I am working on adding audio to things but due to the amount of time that I am spending teaching my own son each day, I have not been able to get those things done but will continue to try to add things as I can. Thanks, Mr. Knode Today, we are completing the behind the scenes of real life control rooms by looking at a video about how they setup things for the Summer Olympics in Brazil. The video is about an hour long, but I really want you to focus on beginning when they talk about how much they did to get things ready and the control rooms and cameras that they are using.
Again for level 1 watch the video to see how many different jobs and people that it takes to make something like the olympics happen. Level 2, see exactly what those people are doing. Many of the things they are doing might be bigger but it is still the same things that you do for a show. Level 3 same thing. Look at best practices and what can you take from the pros that you can use in Tomahawk Today in level 3 and 4. Thanks, Mr. Knode So this week we continue with Broadcast News Production. This week we are watching videos of actual live control rooms in various productions. News, Sports and the Olympics. We are doing this so you can see how a real control room looks and sounds. Be sure as you watch each video, what do you notice that is similar in each place? Most of the jobs are all the same but done just a little differently. How many types of jobs do you recognize and what are they doing? Things like this. Also, notice how even when it is calm or chaotic, who is in charge? How do they do it and what are they doing? Watch how the directors and producers work together. How the director talks with the the crew etc.
Level 3, this is a chance for you to again be reminded how things work in a control room. This is good review for EOPA and preparation for how your Tomahawk Today shows will be like in the future. Also, be thinking what can you take away from these videos that you can use in your upcoming Tomahawk Shows. Discuss these in your paragraphs for this week. Next week we start talking about how do they stack a show and how do we write a news piece. etc. You can email me your paragraphs or take a picture and email me them. Either way works for me this week. Thanks, Mr. Knode Today's assignment is about Targeting your Audience using Gatorade as an example. Read the powerpoint and send in the worksheet information.
Grading update. It is highly recommended by me that any students who are planning on taking Level 2, 3 or 4 next year should continue with my class. We are learning about Broadcast News and live control room and studio work. So it is important that they know this information as they move into level 2 next year and not fall behind. For level 2s moving to level 3 they need this information because their primary work for the semester will be making the content for the Tomahawk Today news show and they need to know how to write and edit for a live news show. Level 3 going into 4, we need them to already be well versed in writing for the show because they are going to have a busy time learning entirely new equipment in the studio and control room next year. So please encourage your students to stay with the assignments if they are continuing on with my classes. If you and your student decide though that you do not wish to continue on, then I can only hear that from the Parents. An email from the student does not qualify for this. So please let me know if that will be the case so that I can let my administration know who is no longer following with the class. This will allow me and the school to not send additional emails or information about assignments and class work attendance as well as making sure that their counselors know about this as well. Thanks, Mr. Knode |
